FAQ

I’m sure you have lots of questions, we are glad to help.

Do I need a referral from a doctor to get an appointment?

No referral or prescription is necessary. You may book an appointment directly with our office, either over the phone or on our website at www.arizonacancerscreening.com

How long does a scan take to perform?

Approximately 20-30 minutes depending on the screening chosen. Plan on being at our office for about 45 minutes total.

Is there a protocol to be followed prior to being scanned?

Yes. Thermal imaging is a heat sensitive test. Anything which creates heat should be avoided prior to testing: excessive metabolic activity, friction, or any activities which will alter heat readings. To ensure the best accuracy of the screening, you must follow a specific protocol starting 48 hours before you are scheduled for your scan. A detailed description of this protocol is included in your intake form as you schedule your appointment, and will be explained again in the confirmation email you receive after booking your appointment.

How long does it take to get results?

It takes approximately 7-10 business days for us to deliver your results. We contract with three Board-certified thermography interpreters who view your images for optimal reporting. Once we capture the images during your scan, we send these images out to our interpreters who read the data and detail their findings and recommendations which takes about a week’s time. We will email the report directly to you, and your doctor upon your request, as well as have our clinician personally call you with the results of your scan.

Is thermography covered by insurance?

Not at this time. Keep in mind, cutting-edge technology is not covered in most fields of medicine. Our clinic charges a nominal fee for this technology despite the high cost of the equipment and other overhead. We try to keep the cost as low as possible in order to keep this important technology accessible to everyone! In addition, HSA and FSA accounts can be utilized for your scan. There are resources available to help women pay for breast screenings, such as United Breast Cancer Foundation.

How much does a breast thermogram cost?

Body & Breast Thermal Imaging charges $250 for a Breast Scan. Most agree this is a small price to pay for early breast cancer detection! We also offer full body scans and other services at an affordable cost.

Should I get a full body scan?

It depends upon your specific areas of concern. About 90% of patients nation-wide have a full body scan or health profile performed at the time of the exam. Statistics show a 97% patient satisfaction rate based on recent surveys. The information from a full body scan gives a complete baseline to detect future heat changes in the body, and can also help determine if your current personal wellness plan is working. It provides a great evaluation tool for your lifestyle and helps you determine what changes should be made to reach your personal wellness goals.

How often will I need a thermogram?

Your initial scan will dictate what follow-up is necessary. With no suspicious findings, most follow-up recommendations will be 12 months. Scans that warrant monitoring typically will be 3-6 months. If you are using Thermography to monitor your overall health it is a good idea to be tested quarterly until your health is stable. Annual wellness checks are recommended if there are no unusual findings.

What do I do if a Thermogram shows abnormalities?

Take the appropriate action detailed in your report and be sure to follow up as recommended by our doctors and yours. Many times we are able to pick up on thermal footprints that can indicate cancerous changes before other standard tests, which provides the ability to act swiftly and appropriately. For example, thyroid heat may be found long before a blood test will show signs of thyroid dysfunction. Early detection, dietary and lifestyle changes combined with integrative healthcare are the best way to achieve optimal wellness. It is advised to work with a doctor familiar with Thermal Imaging and its potential life-saving ability. Partnering with your doctor and Body & Breast Thermal Imaging is a great starting place!

Are there any false negatives with Thermal Imaging?

As with all medical diagnostic techniques, there are some limitations in thermography. Because Thermography is a measure of heat, essentially “taking the temperature” of the body, it cannot detect some cancers which have low-metabolic rates. These types of cancers are usually slow-growing and illustrate the need for an integrative approach to cancer screening, utilizing more than just one diagnostic technique as a catch-all. Conversely, Research show that Thermography is excellent at detecting high-metabolic cancers such as Inflammatory Breast Cancer, which is often missed in routine mammograms.

Are there many false positives with Thermal Imaging?

The purpose of the Thermographic evaluation is to show areas of hot and cold in the body. Thermographic Imaging is greater than 99% accurate for this purpose. Therefore we can say there are no false positives with Thermal Imaging. Heat can be present due to many factors. There is no such thing as “normal” inflammation in the body. The presence of excess heat can be indicative of pathological process or injury.
